The overarching objective of the Heat and Health African Transdisciplinary Center (HEAT Center) is to develop innovative solutions to mitigate the health impacts of climate change in Africa.

Over five years we will implement two research projects and 10-12 pilot projects, all streamlined and supported by the Administration, Data Management and Analysis, and Training and Engagement Cores.

The Centre aims to:

  • Prepare a data science ecosystem and platform to support analysis of existing environmental, biomedical and other data
  • Increase knowledge and develop sustainable solutions to address research priorities in climate change and health
  • Advance capacity for data science research in climate change and health, focusing on early career individuals and key organizations in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Serve as a continental resource and centre of excellence for informing policy and practice through engagement and key partnerships
